Buyer | Product Manager

Hawley is seeking an analytical, detail minded and organized individual to join our purchasing team. This key position includes analyzing sales history, placing purchase orders with assigned vendors and maintaining excellent vendor relations. If you have bicycle product knowledge and a strong background in purchasing, inventory management and vendor relations, we would like to hear from you.

The ideal candidate will have 2 yrs purchasing and/or inventory management experience in the bicycle industry or with demonstrated bicycle product knowledge. Candidate should also have experience with replenishment software, monitoring supplier lead times and developing pricing strategies, as well as, excellent research skills, attention to detail and follow-through. We are looking for someone with strong bicycle product knowledge, flexibility to travel and a passion for cycling.

Minimum Requirments:
High School diploma; 3 years bicycle industry experience; OR 1 year purchasing and/or inventory management in bicycle industry or with demonstrated bicycle product knowledge. Software Developer

Hawley is looking to add a proficient software developer to its IT department. This individual will perform software analysis/diagnostics and design/development of technical solutions to meet current and future needs of company. This includes new application development as well as enhancement and maintenance of existing software applications. Position will focus primarily on development of web-based data driven software. Individual must have the ability to handle all aspects of the application development life cycle – from concept to design, coding, testing, debugging and documentation.

Primary Responsibilities:

Distribution Center Manager - Sparks Facility

Hawley LLC, a successful bicycle parts and accessories distributor headquartered in Lexington, SC, continues to enjoy record breaking results. Plans are underway to open a new West Coast Distribution Center in Sparks, Nevada, a suburb of Reno, to provide more complete nationwide coverage. Hawley’s recent partnership with Lambert, the largest bicycle parts and accessories distributor in Canada, has provided critical resources to continue our growth and expansion opportunities in the U.S. market.

The Manager of our new West Coast Distribution Center will be a major contributor to guiding the company through this exciting period of growth and improving its competitive position and profitability. This key position is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the DC including receiving inventory from vendors, layout of warehouse, inventory control, processing inventory through the DC and ensuring timely, accurate delivery of orders to the customer.

The ideal candidate is someone that is passionate about a career in distribution and has at least 4 years’ of management experience in a fast-paced automated distribution environment. Day-to-Day Activities:

  • Supervise daily activities of 10-20 distribution employees, motivating staff to achieve desired results through individual accountability and teamwork
  • Develop staff effectively by continual coaching and providing ongoing feedback on both positive and negative performance.
  • Administer all employee relations and document corrective action in a fair manner in accordance with all DOL laws. Consults HR Director as appropriate.
  • Interview, hire and train new employees
  • Analyze DC processes and metrics and establish and maintain all material handling procedures to ensure effective and efficient operations and results.
  • Establish optimum personnel levels and schedules to accomplish DC operational goals within tight same-day shipping deadlines.
  • Monitor the status of work flow regarding quantities of orders, inventory stock levels and any issues that arise throughout the day.
  • Ensure customer orders are processed (picked, packed and delivered) according to company policy and in a manner that focuses on providing service levels that meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Work with Customer Service to assist in resolving issues related to order fulfillment and shipping.
  • Ensure all DC employees are properly trained on safe operation of material handling equipment in compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of production reports regarding DC operations.
  • Develop a space utilization plan and monitor layout of DC to ensure it continues to meet company objectives.
  • Coordinate and conduct physical inventory counting and reporting.
  • Investigate and solve issues that arise with inventory discrepancies.
  • Works closely with Supply Chain Analyst and Director of Product and Vendor Relations to ensure optimum delivery and receiving of inventory.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local transportation suppliers.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years management experience in a fast paced distribution environment, including shipping, receiving and inventory control.
  • Experience with RF, Bar Code and Electronic Data Interchange technology preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR laws and regulations, Workers Compensation procedures and employee relations skills.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping requirements and associated manifesting of various carriers (UPS, FedEx, LTL, OnTrac, etc.)
  • Demonstrated leadership, motivation and human relations skills.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and decision making skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Strong PC skills including word processing and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience with WMS systems preferred.
  • Bachelors degree in a Business or Logistics discipline preferred.
