The son of a bicycle shop owner founded Hawley in 1986; you can say the bike industry is in our blood. Hawley is headquartered in Lexington, South Carolina, with international distribution to all 50 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Caribbean of 25,000 items and over 200 manufacturers. We haven’t always been as big as we are presently; our growth and success are the direct result of our commitment to offer the best possible customer service to the Independent Bicycle Dealers. We offer same day shipping, competitive pricing, a concise group/kit program and are happy to have one of the most functional and easy to use websites in the industry. We can ship anywhere in the continental United States in as little as two days, thanks to our special freight and credit programs. We are proud to support the bicycle industry through our involvement with advocacy programs such as The Alliance for Biking and Walking, Bikes Belong, IMBA, SORBA, Palmetto Cycling Coalition and Rails to Trails as well as teams, athletes and other national and local groups.
The roots of our bicycle industry family tree run all the way back to 1964 when Bobby and Barbara Hawley opened a brick and mortar shop in Fayetteville, North Carolina. With the help of their four sons, the business expanded into three stores during the early 1980s. In 1982, their second-oldest son, Steve Hawley decided to pursue an idea of his father’s and started a new venture called Collegiate Originals. After securing a number of college logo licenses, he began marketing children’s bicycles adorned with their favorite university’s team livery.
These unique and innovative bikes were an instant hit, thus providing the best opportunity to enter into the wholesale distribution business. Almost immediately, customers began requesting parts and accessories and in 1986 Hawley, the company, was born. By the mid 1990s, Hawley had established itself as one of the top regional distributors in the country. Since the early 2000s, the company has grown substantially; better serving its loyal regional customers and making headway with new dealers around the country and world. Today, along with a keen eye on the future, Hawley continues their focus on customer service as they propel their business and deepen their roots, nationwide.
